A-BIKE- he A-bike is a type of folding bicycle invented by Sir Clive Sinclair in the United Kingdom and released on 12 July 2006. It weighs 5.5 kilograms (12 lb) and folds to 67×30×16 cm, small enough to fit in a rucksack.
"The idea is that if you have a bicycle which is seriously lighter and more compact than anything existing at the moment, it will change the way in which people see bikes."
Sir Clive Sinclair, inventor of the A-bike

............................................................................................................................................................
YIKE-BIKE-If you don't mind your handlebars being located beside your butt and endless giggles and smirks as you roll by then perhaps the YikeBike is the fancy bit of urban mobility kit you've been yearning. Looking something like a space-age version of that charming British improvement on the French boneshaker bike, this mini penny-farthing is minimalist but packs some cool features. Not only is it equipped with turning and braking indicators but it is the first "bike" to feature anti-locking brakes. The carbon fiber frame ensures strength but keeps it light enough (10 kg/22 lb) to carry up a couple flights of stairs after you spend the 15 seconds it takes to fold it up.
The unfortunate price tag of 3,500 Euros (app. $5,235) really brings this product screaming to a halt.
..............................................................................................................................................................

SEGWAY-At first glance, this device (called the SegwayTM Human Transporter) doesn't seem all that remarkable -- it looks like a high-tech scooter. But people who have tried it out claim that it is much, much more -- a completely different way to get around.
Dean Kamen, the machine's inventor, held especially high hopes for the Segway.
Although the Segway hasn't quite lived up to its hype, it's most definitely an amazing machine.
Cost 5000 USD highly priced.
..............................................................................................................................................................

ENICYCLE-While the Enicycle may look eerily similar to Focus Design's SBU unicycle, it's decidedly different when looking at the nuts and bolts of things. As of now, just two of these devices exist in the entire world, and one Ortis Deley was able to scoot over to Italy in order to give one of them a ride. Thanks to what is described as "a clever system of gyroscopes, embedded processors and a 1,000W hub motor," the bike was said to be exceptionally easy to control, and the foot-steering apparatus seemed to also work quite well.Cost- not yet in full production , hope they will do justice to the price.
..............................................................................................................................................................

EASY-GLIDER-One of the more interesting personal transportation devices we have seen in recent times is the German-made EasyGlider - an electrically-powered wheel with a handle that offers a quite unique motive experience, exhilarating speed and a range of 35km on each charge.
After several years of development of the EasyGlider, the final production version is nearing readiness and the company plans to deliver the first vehicles in September with mass production due to begin in October 2004.
So strong has been the interest in the eco-friendly EasyGlider that the company is holding firm orders for more than 2000 at the retail price of EU890 (AU$1430).

..............................................................................................................................................................

TOYOTA-WINGLET-Prepare to step aside Segway, you had your chance to revolutionize personal transportation. Introducing the Toyota Winglet. Still under development, Winglet's body has a 10.4 x 18-inch footprint and stands 1.5-, 2.2-, or 3.7-feet tall (depending upon the S, M, or L model chosen) and features an electric motor capable of a max 6km/h cruising speed for up to 10km a jaunt (only 5km for the S model). Like the Segway, the user controls the Winglet by shifting his weight to move the transporter forward and back or to make tight turns.
No idea about cost and date of availability yet.
.................................................................................................................................................................

HONDA U3-X-eah, we've seen a self-balancing unicycle before, but the brand new U3-X from Honda takes it to another level. A creepy-sterile, awesomely futuristic Honda level, to be precise. What makes the U3-X particularly interesting is it has the regular large wheel of a unicycle, but that wheel is actually made up of several small wheels in a series, which can rotate independently, meaning that the device can go forward, backward, side-to-side and diagonally, all being controlled with a simple lean. Honda credits its ASIMO research for this multi-directional capability, though we're not sure we see it -- ASIMO is biped, after all -- but far be it from us to discredit an excuse to keep up the good work on the ASIMO front. Right now the "experimental model" of the U3-X gets a single hour of battery and weighs under 22 pounds, with a seat and foot rests that fold into the device for extra portability. No word of course on when the thing might make it to market,

PET ROCK- perfect example of marketing any product

Gary Dahl, as California advertising man, was having drinks with his buddies one night in April 1975 when the conversation turned to pets. As a lark, Mr. Dahl informed his friends that he considered dogs, cats, birds, and fish all a pain in the neck. They made a mess; they misbehaved; they cost too much money. He, on the other hand, had a pet rock, and it was an ideal pet - easy and cheap, and it had a great personality. His buddies started to riff with the off-the-wall idea nd pretty soon they were al tossing around the notion of a pet rock and all the things it was good for.

Dahl spent the next two weeks writing the Pet Rock Training Manual - a step-by-step guide to having a happy relationship with your geological pet, including instructions for how to make it roll over and play dead and how to house train it. "Place it on some old newspapers. The rock will never know what the paper is for and will require no further instruction.' To Accompany the book, Dahl decided to actually create a Pet Rock. He went to a builder's supply store in San Jose and found the most expensive rock in the place - a Rosarita Beach Stone, which was a uniform size, rounded gray pebble that sold for a penny. He packed the stone in excelsior in a gift box shaped like a pet carrying case, accompanied by the instruction book.

The Pet Rock was introduced at the August gift show in San Francisco (the gift market is much easier to break into than the cutthroat toy market), then in New York. Neiman-Marcus ordered five hundred. Gary Dahl sent out homemade news releases of himself accompanied by a picture that showed him surrounded by boxes of his Pet Rocks. Newsweek did a half-page story about the nutty notion, and by the end of October Gary Dahl was shipping ten thousand Pet Rocks every Day. He appeared on "The Tonight Show," twice. By Christmas when, two and a half tons of rocks had been sold, three-fourths of all the daily newspapers in America had run Pet Rock stories, often including Gary Dahl's tongue-in-cheek revelations about how each rock was individually tested for obedience at Rosarita Beach in Baja, Mexico, before being selected and boxed. A million rocks sold for $3.95 apiece in just a few months, and Gary Dahl - who decided from the beginning to make at least one dollar from every rock - had become an instant millionaire.

IDEA GENERATION TECHNIQUE- Morphological chart

Technique is structured approach to concept generation to widen the area of search for solutions to a defined design problem. Can help the team generate a complete range of alternative design solutions for a product through a systematic analysis of the form/configuration that a product or machine might take.
A morphological chart is a visual way to capture the necessary product functionality and explore alternative means and combinations of achieving that functionality. For each element of product function, there may be a number of possible solutions. The chart enables these solutions to be expressed and provides a structure for considering alternative combinations. This can enable the early consideration of the product 'architecture' through the generation and consideration of different combinations of 'sub-solutions' that have not previously been identified. Used appropriately, it can help to encourage a user driven approach to the generation of potential solution.\

METHOD
  • List product functions.
  • List the possible 'means' for each function.
  • Chart functions and means & explore combinations

Chart gives various no. of alternative solution for the problem. choose each alternative evaluate them on
your design criteria. and now you have got the pefect solution.

USD 20 water purifier from TATA

Mr. Ratan N Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons said: “Safe drinking water is the most basic of human needs. The social cost of water contamination is already enormous and increases every year. Although today’s announcement is about giving millions more people affordable access to safe water, it is an important step in the long term strategy to find a solution to provide affordable access to safe water for all.”
‘Tata Swach®’, is the result of years of collaboration between several Tata companies, including TCS, Tata Chemicals and Titan. Based on an innovative concept developed by the TCS Innovation Labs - TRDDC, the Swach technology combines low-cost ingredients such as rice husk ash with superior nano – technology. The efficiency of the product has been rigorously tested to meet internationally accepted water purification standards.
Water-borne disease is the single greatest threat to global health, with diarrhea, jaundice, typhoid, cholera, polio, and gastroenteritis spread by contaminated water. According to a 2007 United Nations report, half of the world’s hospital beds are occupied by patients suffering from water-borne diseases. In India, such diseases cause more than 1.5 times the deaths caused by AIDS and double the deaths caused by road accidents.
Built around a bulb-like water purifier made of natural elements like rice husk ash impregnated with nano-silver particles, ‘Tata Swach®’ is convenient to use. It produces clean and safe water without using electric power or running water, which is often not available in rural areas. The cartridge bulb is packed with a purification medium which has the capability to kill bacteria and disease causing organisms. It can purify up to 3000 litres of water after which the cartridge stops water flow. The water purifier gives the user enough lead time for cartridge replacement. Fourteen patents have been filed for the technology and product.

EcoCradle™ natural green packaging

EcoCradle™is material to compete with expanded polystyrene without ecological or economic compromises. EcoCradle™ is at the forefront of the bio-based materials revolution and it shows. EcoCradle™'s distinctive appearance speaks to its roots, with each unit showing the silhouettes of the seed husks we use.

Ecovative Design is a company located in Green Island New York dedicated to solving the problems that styrofoam creates in our environment by developing compostable solutions. Their two flagship products, Ecocradle and Greensulate replace styrofoam packaging you might find around your computer or TV set and insulation you might otherwise be using in the walls of your home.

Ecovative's solutions use a combination of mushroom roots "mycelium" and local feedstock (which means in can be made on site anywhere in the world, further reducing the impact of transportation in use). This might include cotton gin trash, buckwheat hulls or hazelnut husks. The end result is a direct replacement for styrofoam that can be created without using any petroleum, electricity or heat but offers the same thermal and physical properties as styrofoam.

One unit of this biocomposit requires ten times less CO2 and eight times less energy than the same volume of styrofoam. In the world of products helping to make a material difference this is an outstanding step forward and worth considering for any business that ships products or home owner considering insulation options.

ToucHb is a portable, non-invasive hemoglobin estimation device

Every minute a women dies as a result of pregnancy or childbirth. The loss of 500,000 women a year is tragic, as it is preventable with the right technology tools. Nearly 40% of maternal deaths are directly and indirectly attributed to anaemia. A major root cause why anaemia goes untreated is the lack of healthcare infrastructure and diagnostic facilities or doctors at remote rural locations in the developing world. Prevalence Iron deficiency anaemia is one of the most prevalent nutritional deficiencies in the world (WHO)and affects a billion people worldwide. Iron demand in pregnancy and growth is high, so pregnant women and children are most seriously affected by anaemia. In India, anaemia contributes to around 40% of maternal deaths a year (Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR): 301 deaths per 100000 live births). In view of the high prevalence of moderate and severe anaemia (21.1%) in this group and the fact that many of them get married early, conceive, and face the problems associated with anaemia in pregnancy, it is imperative to screen them for anaemia and monitor their treatment.”
